Henderson Field/Operation Shoestring Variant
Operation Shoestring (GMT) is the most detailed land game on
the Guadalcanal campaign. It also offers an enticing global coverage
of ground, naval, and air combat. However, it has its problems (for
example, half a Japanese division is missing from the OOB; sort of
like forgetting about Longstreet's troops at Gettysburg) and is very
slow to play.
Henderson Field, part of the Campaign for Guadalcanal
game from 3W, is a much less detailed game that pretty much omits
naval and air issues. However, it is an excellent and quick portrayal
of the land campaign.
This variant is a combination of the Operation Shoestring air
and naval game and the Henderson Field ground game that brings
out the strengths of both while being much shorter to play than
Operation Shoesting.
