Research Assistanships

Research Assistantship are available for 1998/99 academic year for graduate
students wanting to pursue M.S. degrees
(excellent students will be then offered the opportunity to
pursue a Ph.D degree). The assistantships are funded by the Department of
Commerce research grant headed by Prof. Les Sztandera, and carry full tuition
plus $12,000 stipend.

Students are expected to pursue research under Prof. Sztandera's supervision
on a variety of projects funded by National Science Foundation (NSF),
Department of Commerce, and National Textile Center (NTC).


- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Engineering, or related science
- strong programming skills in C/C++
- good working knowledge of UNIX operating system
- interest in genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, neural networks, and
hybrid intelligent systems
- knowledge of chemistry or textile chemistry

Research environment includes state-of-the art Sillicon Graphics Laborarory
(a cluster of Challenge L and O2 workstations), Digital (DEC OSF/1)
workstations, and access to Cray Supercomputer.
