I am a scientist working in the field of expert systems in medical
decision making. Here we don't necessarily want to mimic human
decision making - we need to improve it by introducing objectivity,
consistency and reproducibility. In my mind fuzzy logic tries to
manage the vagueness that is inherent in human understanding and
decision making. Does fuzzy logic have a place when we are trying to
improve upon conventional human decision making processes or is it
just a mechanism which tries to immitate human decision making
processes - which we know can be inconsistent and poorly reproducible.
