Fuzzy Food User Group

Welcome to the special interest group on "Application of Fuzzy Logic
and Soft Computing to Food Processing and Agricultural Engineering" ("Fuzzy
Food" for short). This inaugural message will reach everyone in the bisc
group as well. All subsequent messages will go only to the members of the
"Fuzzy Food" user group.

If you wish to send general messages to the group, or initiate
discussions, provide information that may be useful to the group, etc.
you may use the group address "fuzzy_food@mech.ubc.ca". Please note that
this is an unmoderated user group/mailing list. That means you alone will
be responsible for what you write, and the usual etiquette should apply.

Comments regarding management/maintenance of the user group,
"subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests, and complaints or problems such
as reception of duplicate messages, should be addressed to:
"owner-fuzzy_food@mech.ubc.ca" and not to the entire group. Clearly, the
bisc members who are also in the Fuzzy_Food group will receive this
message in duplicate. But this is a one-time situation.

For the current year (1996), the following committee has been chosen to
run the group:

Honorary Chair: Professor Lotfi Zadeh
Chair and Group Manager: Professor Clarence de Silva
Group Secretary: Mr. Scott Gu

Advisory Committee: Professor Madan Gupta; Professor Mohammad Jamshidi;
Professor Bart Kosko; Dr. Arthur Murphy; Professor Ronald Yager.

If you have suggestions regarding this committee and for enhancing
it please contact me, Clarence de Silva, at: desilva@mech.ubc.ca. Also, I
wish to start things off by introducing you to the other members of the
group. For this, I need a brief biographical sketch and mailing address
of you. If you have sent this to me already, no need to send it again.
But, if you do not wish to be introduced to the entire group, please let me
know that now.

Also, if you are already active (i.e., researcher, practitioner,
marketer, etc.) in the area of interest of the group, you may wish to send
a brief description of your activity to the group. If you know others who
are interested in the area, please invite them to join our group. Please
send us your suggestions, comments, constructive criticism, etc. so that we
can grow and serve a useful purpose. At present there are about 75
members in the "Fuzzy_Food" group. From now on you should add "Fuzzy_Food"
to other essential food groups!
