Faculty of Engineering and Interactive Systems Centre

Research Assistant in the Signal and Image Processing Group, Magee
College

Ref:J96/31/AT

The Signal and Image Processing Group at Magee College is engaged in
advanced research and development activity in the areas of image
processing,
neural networks and fuzzy systems. The Group is expanding its research

capability in the area of neurofuzzy systems and now wishes to recruit
an
additional research assistant, for 18 months in the first instance with
the
possibility of renewal.

The successful applicant will contribute to the Signal and Image
Processing
Group by researching hardware systems for efficient implementations of
artificial neural and fuzzy-neural networks, for a range of
applications.
Applicants must possess a degree in electronic engineering, physics,
applied
mathematics, or a closely related discipline, or a higher degree in an
appropriate area. A strong commitment to research and development
activities
is essential. Preference will be given to candidates who can
demonstrate a
record of achievement in a relevant research area such as neural
networks
(hardware or software), field programmable gate array design, VLSI
design,
or fuzzy systems.

The Group operates as a constituent part of the Interactive Systems
Centre
at Magee College and thus emphasises a multidisciplinary team working
approach. It is therefore important that applicants are able to work
effectively within a multidisciplinary team. The ability to solve real

research problems in a coherent and effective manner is a fundamental
requirement.

The post will be tenable at the Magee College Campus in Derry.
