INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE PROGRAM FOR OVERSEAS STUDENTS in 2002
on Information and Computer Sciences
The Department of Information and Computer Sciences at
Saitama University, Saitama city, Japan, offers two highly
qualified overseas students opportunities
to pursue their Ph.D. degrees under financial supports by
the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology,
Japan (MonbuKagaku-sho).
The program normally starts in October and
requires a minimum residency of three years for Ph.D. candidates.
Class instruction, research supervision and guidance are conducted
in English; while doctoral dissertations, reports, examinations and
presentations by the students may also be given in English.
1. Qualifications:
An applicant must have the following qualifications:
1) An applicant must have a Master's Degree in Information
and Computer Science or related area.
2) An applicant must be in good mental and physical health.
3) An applicant must not be over 35 years of age as of April 1, 2002.
4) An applicant must be able to come to Saitama University
by October 7, 2002, if admitted.
2. Schedule of Application and Admission:
The schedule for the application and admission process is as
shown below:
December 25, 2001 * Deadline for application
March 31, 2002 Notification of results to applicants
October 7, 2002 Graduate program commences
* Application should be postmarked no later than the mentioned date
3. Required Documents:
(a) Completed application form (Form A)
(b) Certified copy of grades and academic records for undergraduate and
graduate studies completed
(c) Two letters of recommendation (Form B)
(d) Essays (research plans) on selected topics (Form C)
(e) Resume (Form D)
(f) Pledge with applicant's and recommenders' signatures (Form E)

4. Financial Supports:
The program is highly selective and admits only 2 students each year.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan
covers all tuition and academic fees, a monthly allowance of about
185,000 Japanese Yen, and a round-trip ticket to the
awardee's home town.
