THE ORGANIZERS: Indian Statistical Institute and Jadavpur University,
Calcutta in cooperation with national and international affiliates of
Asian Fuzzy Systems Society (AFSS).
THE OBJECTIVE: The aim is to bring the researchers working in soft
computing and related areas under one umbrella to enable exchange of
ideas and interaction between them for the advancement of science and
technology. The conference will cover all facets of soft computing
including both theories and applications with special emphasis on the
"role of soft computing in information technology". There will be a
one day pre-conference tutorial on February 3, 2002.
THE VENUE: Science City, Calcutta. The conference site is close to the
Calcutta International Airport.
THE EXTRAS: Calcutta, the City of Joy, is proud of several interesting
site seeing spots including a wonderful museum, a big zoo, the
Victoria memorial and the science city. A local sightseeing program
and also a social/cultural program will be arranged for the
participants. Details will be intimated later.
THE SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: Full papers not exceeding four A-4 size
pages with complete affiliation of each author including email
address, if any, should be sent to the Conference Secretariat, by
April 30, 2001. We strongly encourage electronic submission. For
electronic submission, a PS/PDF file of the manuscript should be
mailed to afss2002.paper@isical.ac.in. For details of manuscript
preparation and submission please see our web site:
www.isical.ac.in/~afss2002. While submitting your manuscript, please
indicate the area your paper is suitable for. Each paper will be
reviewed by prominent researchers in the relevant areas. All accepted
papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings which will be
made available during the conference.
THE TOPICS OF INTEREST: These include but not limited to the
following: Fuzzy sets and systems, fuzzy mathematics, approximate
reasoning, control, databases, neural networks, neuro-fuzzy systems,
pattern recognition and image processing in soft computing paradigm,
data mining, evolutionary computing, linguistic summarization,
applications of soft computing in industries, remote sensing and in
atmospheric sciences, and hardware for soft computing.
AREA CHAIRS
M. K. Chakraborty (Fuzzy Mathematics)
C. T. Lin (Neural Networks)
W. Pedrycz and R. Krishnapuram (Pattern Recognition)

THE TUTORIALS: It will consists of two parts. The first part will
provide a comprehensive knowledge of the major facets (namely, fuzzy
logic, neural networks and evolutionary computing) of soft computing
while the second part will focus on hybridization and advanced
applications. A limited number of applicants will be allowed on first
come first served basis. Proposals for tutorial outlining the contents
should be sent to the conference secretariat.
The Invited Sessions: Some special invited sessions will be organized
by renowned scientists. Proposals for invited session should be sent
to the conference secretariat.
