Postdoctoral Research Associate
A Case Based Approach to Heuristic Selection for Timetabling
School of Computer Science & Information Technology
University of Nottingham
A postdoctoral EPSRC-funded post is available within the Automated
Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning (ASAP) research group within the
School of Computer Science and IT at the University of Nottingham. The
group currently has four permanent members of staff, four Research
Assistants and 14 full-time PhD students.
The project will involve work at the cutting edge of heuristic research
in timetabling problems and Case Based Reasoning approaches will be
investigated for finding the method for solving the problem (instead of
simply finding a solution).
The Research Assistant will develop and investigate a range of novel
heuristics for timetabling using techniques such as Genetic Algorithms,
Ant Colony Optimisation, Local Search etc, and then explore Case Based
Reasoning approaches to pick a high quality method in a given situation.
Salary will be within the range 16,775 - 25,213 per annum, depending
on qualifications and experience. This post will be offered on a
fixed-term contract for a period of two years.
