        Job Opportunity in Advanced Resource Planning & Scheduling

The Intelligent Systems Research group at BT Laboratories is conducting
advanced research and development into Intelligent Software Systems
covering areas such as Resource Planning & Scheduling, Agent Systems,
and Machine Intelligence. The group has many years of experience and has

published widely on its intelligent systems research. Recently, the
group
has been awarded one British Computer Society (BCS) IT award and two BCS
IT
medals for its innovative R&D work on Software Agents and Dynamic
Workforce
Scheduling.

Currently, the group is looking to recruit a candidate with strong
background in Computer Science or Operations Research. Experience in one

or more of the following would be essential :

          * resource planning & scheduling
          * constraint programming
          * combinatorial search techniques
          * distributed systems

The successful candidate will join established teams and work in a
challenging and innovative environment. The group maintains strong
links with other leading international research organisations and
universities. It is also involved in transferring new technologies
into operational systems.

The successful applicant will be working in a research-oriented
environment
for one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world.
BT Research Laboratories has a well-established track record for
developing
leading-edge technologies for the telecommunications industry. The
Laboratories are based in Ipswich, South-East England.

Suitable candidates should have a postgraduate qualification preferably
PhD
in Computer Science or Operations Research related area and strong
software
engineering skills in at least 3 of the following :

               Programming: C, C++, Java (WWW)
               Systems: Unix, Windows NT/95, CORBA
               Tools: OO A&D (e.g. UML, OMT)
