The next IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Conference -- SMC 2000 -- is
scheduled for Nashville, Tennessee, on October 8-11, 2000. This is the main
conference of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society. This year's
conference theme is CYBERNETICS EVOLVING TO SYSTEMS, HUMANS, ORGANIZATIONS
AND THEIR COMPLEX INTERACTIONS.
Soft Computing (SC) has shown its great potential to solve demanding
real-world problems. On the other hand, the well-developed field of Hard
Computing (HC) offers computationally efficient solutions to a wide variety
of existing applications. From the practicing engineer's point of view, the
emerging SC and conventional HC should not be viewed as competing with each
other but rather as complementary. Therefore, we are planning to organize
an invited session on Fusion of Soft Computing and Hard Computing in
Industrial Applications. This session will be a continuation to the highly
successful invited track with the same title at the SMC '99.

The possible applications covered in this session include:

* Manufacturing systems
* Transportation systems
* Energy systems
* Telecommunications systems
* Other applications

Submission:

All papers will be reviewed by up to three referees for technical merit and
content on the basis of an extended abstract of 300-500 words. All
abstracts must contain the title of the paper along with the names and
affiliations, and complete mailing address including e-mail address of the
corresponding author, as well as a rank-ordered list of the three
designated topic areas, chosen from the standard list of topic areas. See

regret that e-mail abstracts of paper submissions cannot be accepted.
Papers accepted will be published in the conference proceedings and
conference CD-ROM.
The Session Organizer must receive all the extended abstracts for
consideration no later than February 18, 2000. Any submissions that cannot
be accepted for this invited session will automatically be redirected for
other sessions.
