It depends on what type of application you need. For large numerical
calculations I would suggest Matlab. For applications to sensor and controls, I
know a professor who is using FuzzyTech instead. He preferred that to buying the
control tool box to add to the fuzzy and neural toolboxes that we have for
Matlab. If the application involves symbolic calculations then perhaps
Mathematica is best since that is where that software package excels. (No
personal experience there.)
