"I've skimmed through Dasarthy, B. V. (ed.) 1991, Nearest neighbor
pattern classification techniques, IEEE Computer Society Press, Los
Alamitos, CA. It reprints 51 papers. All the pattern recognition deals
with static images, or multi-dimensional cases. There is no explicit
coverage of time dimension, or prediction. However the preface does say
that "NN concepts are being applied in new environments outside
traditional pattern recognition." That was 8 years ago. How has the
state of recognition of patterns in time-series evolved since then?"

A more recent reference on local, instance-based learning is "Lazy
Learning", edited by Aha (ISBN 0-7923-4584-3). I don't recall any use
of fuzzy logic, but the material in the book covers a natural extension
of plain vanilla k-NN to models which build simple local models and
includes at least one chapter on a time-oriented problem (a control
problem).
