Adaptive Domestic Heating Controller

I'm designing a heating control algorithm for domestic use. It has a
two position gas valve, and the control action (on/off) is determined
by threshold levels based on both the error and error derivative
(FLC).

I'm considering using a PD type FLC, 2 input, single output, and using
adaptive thresholds based on the integral error. The problem is how
to adapt the thresholds.

For example;
if the integral error is NB, then decrease the on threshold
if the integral error is PB, then decrease the off threshold

The adaption of the thresholds does not need to be fuzzy, but they do
need to have opposing conditions - when should the on threshold be
increased?

Any comments, suggestions or ideas most welcome.
