Dear Colleagues:

In recent months there have been several requests for surveys
of combinations of evolutionary computation and neural networks.
I would like to bring the paper by Xin Yao, "Evolving Artificial
Neural Networks," Proc. IEEE, Sept., 1999, pp. 1423-1447
to your attention in this regard. I believe it is the most complete
and current review of the subject available and includes over
300 references. The issue is a special issue on computational
intelligence and includes articles that hybridize neural, fuzzy,
and evolutionary computation.

If you are interested in combinations of evolutionary computation
and neural networks I encourage your participation at a special
symposium dedicated to this topic that will be held in May, 2000
in San Antonio. More information can be found at:

Sincerely,

David Fogel
