Question: PID Parameter Adjustment for no overshoot

Hello,

as I am new to this group I do not know if this topic was already
covered, so I am sorry if I repeat something already covered.
My current interest is in the automatic parameter adjustment of PID
controllers.
I found a very useful information in a book from Markus Pfeiffer,
"Einsatz von Fuzzy-Logik in lernfähigen digitalen Regelsystemen", but
the book covers only the tuning of PID behaviour with overshoot.

So, I need to find out criterias for typical non-overshoot behaviour,
how to fuzzify this criteria and how to conclude to find the new PID
parameters. Specially the adjustment of the derivative part of the PID
seems to be critical. I must also mention that I use the derivative part
in such a way that the input to the derivative is the Actual value only,
not the controller error.

Another problem is that the system, which is actually a temperature
control system with large dead time, should not require a set value
change to be re-tuned. A disturbance on the system should be enough to
initiate a tuning step. Of course, after a disturbance, the controller
is very well allowed to do a overshoot of the corrective action, but the
overall behaviour of the controller should be maintained, that whenever
a set value change is done, there shall be no overshoot.

If anyone knows some link on the web or has done such a work himself, I
would thank you very much for your help.
