We have developed a software system called Linguistic Fuzzy Logic
Controller (LFLC, v. 1.5). The main idea is to make computer as if
human partner who "understands" the description of the control in
natural language. Hence, the user uses natural language terms only -
altogether about 27, and also fuzzy numbers. The IF-THEN rules are
interpreted as logical implications. Tuning of the linguistic
description (set of IF-THEN rules) is done only in language (i.e. if,
e.g. "small" is too coarse, the user sets "very small", etc.)
Modification of the membership functions is possible, but it turned out
to be unnecessary. We have many good experiences and engineers praised
that the description is very readable and doing what is expected. This
is appreciated especially when it is necessary to modify it after some
time.
