-------------------------------------------------
Post Doctoral Position in Artificial Intelligence at AlliedSignal Inc.

A Post Doctoral position is available at AlliedSignal Research & Technology
in Morristown, NJ. starting June 15, 1999 and ending June 14, 2000.
Possibility of second year extension depending on candidate's performance
and availability of funding. Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering,
Computer Science or related discipline is required.

AlliedSignal Inc. is an advanced technology and manufacturing company with
more than 70,000 employees worldwide. We specialize in aerospace products,
friction materials and performance polymers. You can find more information
about us at www. alliedsignal.com.

The successful candidate will work on a DARPA sponsored project that deals
with self-organization of sensor networks. The system performs
self-organization of randomly distributed sensors to different mission
statements based on events happening in the environment. The system is
composed of modules performing self-organization, target tracking, track
fusion, ID fusion, and communications. The goal of the system is to
identify all targets in the area of interest, and to turn appropriate
sensors on, in such a fashion that predefined metrics are minimized.
Optimization is carried out by Genetic Algorithms.

The candidate will develop a method for translating the broad mission
statement into the optimization goal based on events reported by the
sensors. It will involve working with a tracking library (starting
trackers, deleting trackers, making sure that there is a tracker associated
with each target) and developing rules for sensor usage. The second part of
the work will be developing an adaptive genetic algorithm, capable of much
faster convergence that the basic GA. The work will also involve design and
implementation of a parallel GA.

Strong Artificial Intelligence and Genetic Algorithms background required.
Strong programming capabilities in C++ or C (Microsoft) necessary. Previous
work with parallel genetic algorithms is a definite plus. Familiarity with
target tracking and/or ID fusion is a plus. Knowledge of Fuzzy Logic and of
MatLab environment (especially Fuzzy Logic Toolbox) is desirable but not
required.
