NEW RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE!
**************************************

In AI / Operations Research and Manufacturing

Louisiana State University
Dept. of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering
Baton Rouge, LA

Four Research Fellowships are available to us with funding
from the State of Louisiana (La Board of Regents) and in
coordination with the College of Engineering at the Louisiana
State University (LSU) (http://www.lsu.edu).

******************************************************************
* IMPORTANT: These fellowships are available to U.S. citizens ONLY
******************************************************************

Each fellowship offers $17,500 for 12 months plus tuition
for Ph.D. studies at LSU for a period up to 4 years. The
fellowships start August of 1999. No offers can be made beyond
that date.

We are looking for exceptionally highly qualified Ph.D.
students with areas of expertise in Operations Research and AI
and interests in applying techniques from OR and AI in solving
certain manufacturing problems. Candidates should, preferably
have an MS degree in engineering, operations research,
mathematics, or computer science. A GRE higher than 1,350 (for
the verbal and quantitative parts together) and a GPA higher than
3.50 (out of 4.00) are required.

We strongly expect these candidates to be highly motivated
and strongly dedicated towards the development of a research
career. These students will be engaged in research in the areas
of data mining and knowledge discovery, inductive inference,
machine learning, discrete optimization and with applications in
manufacturing. They will become part of a larger inter-
disciplinary group of students and researchers with similar
interests and expertise at LSU. Please visit our special web
site at: http://cda4.imse.lsu.edu for more details.

The new students will be working in an exclusive Intelligent
Data Analysis lab within the department of Industrial and
Manufacturing Systems Engineering at LSU and they will have their
own networked Pentium PCs with the appropriate software, and
other peripherals (laser printers, scanners, mass storage media,
etc.). Our lab has a super fast fiberoptic connection to LSU's
IBM 3090 mainframe 3090 computer and the WWW. Research
activities in our lab are/have been funded by the U.S. Navy
(ONR), U.S. Dept. of Energy, Oak Ridge National Lab, the National
Research Council (the COBASE and CAST programs), NASA, NSF, the
State of Louisiana and the private sector.

***********************************************************
* Minority students are strongly encouraged to apply. *
