The next IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Conference -- SMC '99 -- is
scheduled for Tokyo, Japan, on October 12-15, 1999. This is the main (annual)
conference of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society. This year's
conference theme, Human Communication and Cybernetics, has been selected to
emphasize new paradigms, design, decision making, and associated resource
allocation under enormous amounts of information networks in the coming
century.
Soft Computing techniques are emerging globally into various control
applications. Innovative control, system identification, and estimation
methods are frequently proposed for new applications. Therefore, we are
planning to organize an invited session on Soft Computing Methods for
Advanced Control. This session will be a direct continuation to the highly
successful invited session with the same title at the SMC '98.

The possible detailed topics of this session include:
* Adaptive and learning systems
* Reinforcement learning control
* Neural network-based control
* Fuzzy logic control
* Nonlinear systems and control
* Novel applications

Submission:
All papers will be reviewed by up to three referees for technical merit and
content on the basis of an extended abstract of no more than 300 words. All
abstracts must contain the title of the paper along with the names and
affiliations, and complete mailing address including e-mail address of the
corresponding author, as well as a rank-ordered list of the three
designated topic areas, chosen from the standard list of topic areas, most
closely related to the paper. See the official SMC '99 Call-for-Papers at
the URL http://www.intergroup.co.jp/smc99/ for appropriate topic areas.
Extended abstracts should be submitted only by e-mail in the form of plain
text to the address of Seppo.Ovaska@hut.fi. Papers accepted will be
published in the conference proceedings and conference CD-ROM.
E-mail your submission to the address of the Session Organizer no later
than February 8, 1998. Only e-mail abstracts of paper submissions are
acceptable. Any submissions that cannot be accepted for this invited
session will automatically be redirected for other sessions.
