Yes, this is the sort fo thing I was getting at. Contrary to the
belief of one previous poster, IF a THEN b or c does make sense.
Backtracking is a convenient way of handling all of these
possibilities as a depth-first search, though I can imagine
situations where all lines are pursued to their ends (a complete
search) because there is a need to check every hypothesis.
