Dear All,

I would also like to comment Herb Simon's and Lotfi Zadeh's discussion. From the methodological standpoint, the conventional AI encounters the following problems:
It mainly stems from the scientific outlook known as logical empiricism. This ideology has prevailed in the scientific communities of the North America, the UK and Scandinavia. It maintains bivalent logic, empiricism and it also assumes that a human being is only a complex automaton or mechanism. Today, it is old-fashioned already because of the following serious problems:
(i) Bivalency and bivalent logic. It is not able to solve the sorites paradox. In addition, bivalent logic is not capable of describing the real world in a sufficient manner.
(ii) Due to its strong empirical commitments, it cannot fully explain the mental processes related to person's insights. This problem was the main reason for its collapse.
(iii) It cannot provide satisfactory explanations on dispositions, such fragile and polite.
(iv) It rejects person's intentions. According to it, a human being can be goal-directed but not goal-oriented.
This criticism also applies to conventional AI.
In addition, I would remind you of the comments of E. Feigenbaum and P. Winston. The former has stated that most problems of the real world are linguistic by nature. The latter has written that the expert systems which deal with vagueness by applying conventional AI, vary from "awful to questionable".

Sincerely,
