The 17th Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing
Society

August 20-21, 1998

Pensacola Beach, Florida

The meeting : This is the meeting you've been waiting for. You can afford
it; and you can still argue world class research. There will be mystery
speakers and surprise activities (e.g.., a biker outlaw parade has been
rumored).

The topics: Fundamentals of fuzzy sets and Fuzzy logic, Approximate
Reasoning, Possibility Theory, Learning, Non-monotonic Logic, Fuzzy neural
networks, integrating fuzzy logic and evolutionary computing, fuzzy logic
hardware, Applications in Computer Vision, Signal Processing, Systems
Modeling and Control, Robotics, Decision systems, Databases, Information
systems, Finance, and Engineering.

The venue: Pensacola Beach : the water is clear, the sand is white, the sun
is hot, the beer is cold, the fish are good, the oysters are better. People
wear baseball hats and drive pickups - pretty close to paradise by any
reckoning. You can stay at the conference site for $89 (sound side) or $99
(gulf side), price per night, for a family of up to 4 people. It's a new
hotel on the beach right in the middle of the swimming, fishing, boating,
reggae dancing, wind surfing, differential topology, singing, pig roasts,
etc..

Your paper : All accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings.
For review, submit 3 copies of a short version (4-6 pages). Format : IEEE
format and some LaTeX templates. (available on our web site),
or any IEEE Transactions format.

Your presentation : ALL papers will be presented as POSTERS. Each set of
speakers will be given 4 minutes to outline their work using overheads. Then
we will adjourn to the poster room to discuss their results, etc.

The deadlines : We need 3 copies of your short paper (5 pages) by January
15, 1998 . If you are submitting them by surface mail, send them to Larry
Hall. Electronic submission is encouraged: See our web site
(http://seraphim.csee.usf.edu/nafips98.html) to find out how . We
will return referee comments on your paper by April 1, 1998, and if it is
accepted, we will need 2 final camera - ready copies by May 15, 1998. There
won't be time for a fix and check cycle, and we will adhere to these
deadlines.

About registration : We want your money when you send your camera ready
paper to us. Here's what it costs:

Full registration fee : $149.95

Student registration fee : $74.95

Your registration fee includes a copy of the proceedings, coffee breaks, and
the banquet Friday night (band TBA, but rest assured, they will rock, they
will roll, they may save your mortal soul).
