On September 30-October 2, 1997, El Paso hosted an International
Workshop on Intelligent Non-Destructive Evaluation Sciences for Aginag
and Futuristic Aircraft.

This workshop was organized by the FAST Center for Structural Integrity
of Aerospace Systems, and sponsored mainly by the US Air Force Office
of Scientific Research (AFOSR). The three-day workshop contained talks
by world leading researchers in intelligent non-destructive aerospace
testing.

Different areas of computational intelligence were covered in the
talks, including successful applications of robotics, neural networks,
fuzzy methods, wavelets, genetic algorithms, etc. Many presenters
emphasized the fact that due to complexity of the problems, usually, the
combination of several techniques was required. Overall, it was a
healthy mix of computer scientists, mechanical and metallurgical
engineers, and aerospace researchers from Air Force, NASA, etc.

FAST Center is planning to publish Proceedings of the workshop by the
end of this year. For information on how to order copies of these
proceedings, and how to get information about future workshops, please
contact Laura A. Barnum, the Administrative Secretary of FAST Center.
