FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS

IFAC Workshop on Intelligent Assembly and Disassembly IAD'98
May 21- 23, 1998, Bled, Slovenia

Organised by:
- Laboratory for Handling Devices, Assembly and Pneumatics,
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana,
on behalf of the Automatic Control Society of Slovenia, and
- Institute for Handling Devices and Robotics
Vienna University of Technology

SCOPE
The intelligent assembly and disassembly (IAD) as an integrative part
of the intelligent manufacturing systems (IMS) becomes increasing
interest in nearest future. For efficiency some methods of artificial
intelligence (AI) and advanced manufacturing technologies are
necessary. The workshop goals concern the reviewing and discussion of
IAD concepts, research results, experience and new ideas as well as
identifying the future trends in this field.

TOPICS
Target for the workshop activity will be related to the following
topics:

- IAS concepts
- Integration of IAS into the IMS
- Computer aided planning of IAS and IDAS
- Design for assembly and disassembly
- Recycling and reuse aspects of disassembly
- Assembly modelling and simulation
- Virtual manufacturing and assembly systems
- Modules for IAS
- Design of workplaces and work organisation
- Advanced sensors
- Tolerancing and assembly
- Knowledge based systems
- Fuzzy logic
- IMS, IAS and logistics
- Robotics.

Practical solutions (e.g. demonstrated with video) are preferred to
purely theoretical considerations.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Contributions to the mentioned topics are welcome. Five copies of the
abstract (approximately 400 words in English) should be received not
later than 15th October, 1997.

DEADLINES
Submission of abstracts: 15th October, 1997
Notification of acceptance: 15th December, 1997
Submission of full papers: 1st March, 1998

Bled, SLOVENIA

VENUE
Bled (501 m above sea level) is widely considered one of the most
beautiful alpine holiday and health resorts. Nature endowed the lake
with infinite gifts - healthy subalpine climate, healing springs,
idyllic and lovely little island in the middle and stately castle
above it. Bled is also known as an excellent organizer of world
championship in rowing and parachuting, while the annual professional
golf tournaments are a big attraction, as are the annual meetings of
the PEN club. Bled is easily accesible by bus, car or taxi from the
airport Ljubljana-Brnik (about 20 km) or Klagenfurt (about 55 km), the
international railway station of Jesenice (about 10 km) or Ljubljana,
the capital of Sovenia (about 50km).
