SCOPE
This symposium is the seventh in the series of very successful
workshops and symposia in this field. It is a major international forum
for researchers, practitioners, managers, policy makers and end users
who are interested in the use of artificial intelligence in design,
testing, maintenance, supervisions and monitoring of real-time control
systems. The objective of the symposium is to bring together control
system specialists, artificial intelligence specialists and end-users.
The technical program will include plenary survey papers, invited
sessions and regular sessions. The plenary papers will include
presentations by leaders in the field of artificial intelligence and
control. An international exhibition is being organized to be held
together with the symposium.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

Papers Must Be Received By February 28, 1997
Six copies of the paper must be submitted. Papers must be on A4 white
paper, one-column format in Times or similar font style, 10 points or
larger with 2 cm or one inch margins on all four sides. The paper must
not exceed eight pages, including figures, tables, and references, and
should be written in English. International authors should submit their
work via Air Mail or Express Courier so as to ensure timely delivery.
All submissions will be acknowledged by electronic or postal mail.

Centered at the top of the first page should be the complete title,
author name(s), and postal and electronic mailing addresses, and
followed by four key words. In the accompanying letter, the following
information must be included :

i Full Title of the Paper
i Corresponding Author (Names, Postal and E-Mail Addresses,
Telephone &
Fax Numbers)
i Presenter (Name, Postal and E-Mail Addresses, Telephone & Fax
Numbers)
i Four Key Words
i Presentation Preferred (Oral or Poster)
i Audio Visual Requirements (e.g. 35 mm Slides, OHP, VCR)

Papers will be reviewed by members of the International Program
Committee and authors will be informed of the decisions at the end of
the review process by April 15, 1997. A limited number of papers will be
accepted for oral and poster presentations. Authors will be allowed to
revise their papers, and final versions must be submitted by May 30,
1997. The final paper must be prepared in accordance with the IFAC
format (full details of which will be provided).

Best Student Paper Awards
To qualify, a student or group of students must be the PRIMARY AUTHOR(S)
and have contributed over 70% of the paper. The student must remain to
be a student when the final revision is submitted in May 30, 1997. The
submission should clearly indicate that the paper is to be considered
for the best student paper award, the amount of contribution by the
student, university, current level of study, and e-mail address. Prizes
will be awarded by top Malaysian Corporations.

Best Application Paper Prize
The papers considered to be the most outstanding illustrators of
industrial applications of AI techniques will be awarded prizes donated
by Elsevier Science.

Special and Invited Sessions
The National Organizing Committee and the International Program
Committee are announcing a special session on benchmark problems of AI
based control approaches. Authors who would like to present a paper
describing problems which can be used in the future as benchmark
problems in the areas of Artificial Intelligence in Control are
cordially invited. Proposal of invited sessions including a brief
description of topics and a list of prospective authors and titles
should be received no later then February 28, 1997.
