Greetings to all of you and best wishes for the New Year.
The past year has witnessed an acceleration in the growth
of fuzzy logic literature and the number of products and
systems in which fuzzy logic is employed. Of particular
significance is the increasing visibility of hybrid systems
in which fuzzy logic, neurocomputing and genetic algorithms
are used in combination. Underlying such systems is soft
computing. In essence, soft computing is a consortium of
methodologies which form the foundation for the conception,
design and deployment of intelligent systems.
Although fuzzy logic and soft computing are gaining in
recognition, there are still many skeptics who are
unconvinced that fuzzy logic has much to offer. Eventually,
the skeptics will have to admit that they were wrong.
The world is entering a period of turbulence and
uncertainty. We do not know what it has in store for us.
All we can do is contribute what we can to the betterment of
mankind through mutual understanding and bonds of
cooperation, friendship and affection.
