I believe your problem has been characterized as "data mining"
using fuzzy sets by Earl Cox in his new book. I am reading his new (approx
US$45) book now "Fuzzy Logic for business and industry" and am very
pleased by what I have read so far. The book provides simple explanations
of a variety of applications -- not just fuzzy control. Source code is
supplied.
