Method complex for minimization

I am reading the paper: "Fuzzy Identification of Systems and Its Applications
to modeling and control" 1985 T. Takagi and M. Sugeno in IEEE Transactions
on systems, man and cybernetics. and they say that they use the well known
complex method for the minimization.
I can't find this method in anywhere. Can anybody help me? Does anybody know
I book or a reference about this method?
