    CALL FOR PAPERS
    SOFT COMPUTING JOURNAL
SPECIAL ISSUE ON SOFT COMPUTING APPLICATIONS TO UMTS-FDD POWER CONTROL
    OPTIMIZATION
    Guest Editors
    W. Pedrycz, A. V. Vasilakos, M. Feroldi
    Scope
The evolution of GSM systems towards UMTS-FDD has posed new technological
challenges. One of them concerns possibilities of FDD Power Control
optimisation. FDD systems are characterised by soft-degradation and
cell-breathing and these phenomena lead to a reduction of the system
capacity. In order to cope with this drawback, proposed were sophisticated
algorithms of power control (Initial Loop, Inner Loop, Outer Loop). The
performance of these algorithms is directly linked with the capacity of FDD
    systems.
Soft Computing being viewed as a vital synergy between fuzzy sets, neural
networks and evolutionary optimisation can play a primordial role in the
development of these technological challenges. Some recent applications
have pointed out at the potential of Soft Computing in this area.
The goal of this special issue of Soft Computing is to discuss recent
developments in this rapidly progressing and technologically crucial area,
identify the most visible trends and study current and emerging
applications. This special issue will help unify the existing methodology
and provide the reader with a fully updated state-of-the-art view of the
    research pursuits.
For the scope of the journal, format of the submission, and a reviewing
procedure, refer to the current guidelines of the journal at:
    http://link.springer.de/link/service/journals/00500/instr.htm.
The authors are encouraged to submit original papers dealing with
theoretical, methodological and applied aspects of FDD power control
optimization. The submission should be done electronically (pdf file) to
    all guest editors:
    Professor Witold Pedrycz
