    ------------------------ CALL FOR PAPERS -----------------------

    CONTROLO 2002
5th PORTUGUESE CONFERENCE ON AUTOMATIC CONTROL

    WEB Page : http://www.ieeta.pt/controlo2002/

    September 5-7, 2002
    Aveiro, Portugal

    Organized by APCA
    Portuguese Association of Automatic Control
    (IFAC National Member Organization)
and supported by Universidade de Aveiro

    SCOPE

The conference is intended as an international forum where an effective
exchange of knowledge and experience amongst researchers active in
various theoretical and applied areas of systems and control can take
place. This is also an excellent opportunity to promote the portuguese
control community and stimulate the establishment of new international
links. Participation of engineers and other scientists from industry is
particularly welcome. The program will include an ample space for
promoting the implementation of new technologies, emphasizing
simultaneously the real-world challenges in their applications.
This edition of the event will include an industrial forum to address
recent applications of control theory and new systems architectures in
industry. The program also includes a special event for students, with
emphasis in the area of mobile robotics.

    LANGUAGE

The working language of the conference is English.

    SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

Plenary lectures by invited speakers, contributed lectures and work in
progress. Contributed papers are solicited in all areas consistent
with the conference themes. Authors are asked to submit electronic
    versions of original papers.

    TOPICS

Contributions are welcome in both theoretical developments and
practical implementations in all areas involving systems and control.
Such topics include, but are not limited to:
    o linear and nonlinear control
    o adaptive control
    o optimal control
    o robust control
    o stochastic control
    o fuzzy and neuro-fuzzy systems
    o control education

    o agricultural processes
    o genetic algorithms
    o robotics and automation
    o industrial automation
    o emerging control technologies
    o biotechnological and environmental systems
    o modelling, simulation and identification
    o distributed control
    o industrial networking
    o process control
    o behavioral systems
    o manufacturing systems and scheduling
    o real time systems architectures
o control technology, sensors and actuators
    o control architectures
    o control applications
    o instrumentation
    o discrete time systems

    INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

The length of each paper should not exceed 6 two columns, single spaced
pages. The cover page should contain title, author's name, affiliation,
address, e-mail address, a brief abstract and five keywords.
Detailed format information will be provided after paper's selection.

    IMPORTANT DEADLINES

March 10, 2002 - Submission of full papers
    May 31, 2002 - Notification of acceptance
June 30, 2002 - Final version of the papers accepted and
    pre-registration

    SPECIAL EVENT ON MOBILE ROBOTICS

A special event focusing on Mobile Robotics is organized for students.
It will include lectures by leaders in the field, a special poster
session, where the students can describe their original projects and
main achievements and a live competition.
