     AFSS 2002 CALL FOR PAPERS
     2002 AFSS International Conference on Fuzzy Systems
     February 3-6, 2002, Science City, Calcutta

    THE SUBMISSION PROCEDURE : Full papers not exceeding five pages
    conforming to the Springer-Verlag style available at
    http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html with complete
    affiliation of each author including email address, if any, should
    be sent to the Conference Secretariat, by May 31, 2001. We
    strongly encourage electronic submission. For electronic
    submission, a PS/PDF file of the manuscript should be mailed to
    afss2002.paper@isical.ac.in. While submitting your manuscript,
    please indicate the area your paper is suitable for. Each paper
    will be reviewed by at least three prominent researchers in the
    relevant areas. All accepted papers will be published in the
    Conference Proceedings by Springer-Verlag in their Lecture
    Notes Series in Artificial Intelligence,
    which will be made available during the conference. For each
    accepted paper one of the authors must register.

       
    THE TOPICS OF INTEREST : These include but not limited to the
    following : Fuzzy sets and systems,fuzzy mathematics, approximate
    reasoning, control, databases, neural networks, neuro-fuzzy systems,
    pattern recognition and image processing in soft computing paradigm,
    data mining, evolutionary computing, linguistic summarization,
    applications of soft computing in industries, remote sensing and
    in atmospheric sciences, and hardware for soft computing.

    THE TUTORIALS : There will four tutorials :
    (1) "An Introduction to Fuzzy Models for Pattern Recognition"

    Prof. Jim Bezdek, Computer Science Department,
    University of West Florida, USA.

    (2) "Neural Network Learning algorithms from the
    supervised to the unsupervised"
    Prof. Harold Szu, Dir. of Digital Media RF Lab, Dept ECE,GWU,
    Washington DC

    (2) "Neuro-fuzzy systems"
    Prof. C. T. Lin, Dept. of Control Engineering,
    National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan.
     
    (4) "Hardware for Soft Computing"
    Prof. T. Yamakawa, Kyushu Institute of Technology, Iizuka, Japan

    Any participant, registered for the tutorial, can attend all
    four tutorials.

    THE PLENARIES and INVITED TALKS : There will be plenaries and
    invited talks by Profs. J. Bezdek, D. Dubois, M. Sugeno, H. Szu,
    I. B. Turksen, T. Yamakawa, Z. Bien, J. Kacpryzk, S. B. Cho,
    M. Mukaidono, C. T. Lin, T. Furuhashi, N. Kasabov,
    R. Krishnapuram and others.
      
    THE SPECIAL ISSUES : Two special issues, one each, of the Int. Jour.
    Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, World Scientific and
    Int. Jour. of Intelligent Systems, Wiley, will be ppublished based on
    enhanced versions of some selected papers.
