ESIT 2000 - European Symposium on Intelligent Techniques

14 - 15 September 2000
Aachen, Germany

The European Symposium on Intelligent Techniques will take place in Aachen,
Germany from 14-15 September 2000. It is the third symposium organised by the
European Network of Excellence ERUDIT.

The symposium shows state-of-the-art presentations as well as new developments
in fuzzy logic and other soft computing technologies. It will have parallel
sessions where experts present their newest developments and applications in
one of the following areas:

· Fuzzy Sets
· Neural-Fuzzy Systems and Learning
· Fuzzy Databases and Information Retrieval
· Fuzzy Control - Methodology and Applications
· Decision Support Systems
· Data Analysis and Signal Processing
· Pattern Recognition and Image Processing
· Applications in Process Industry and Production Planning
· Applications in Traffic and Telecommunication
· Applications in Environmental Planning
· Medicine and Biomedical Applications
· Financial Engineering and Forecasting
· Software, Hardware, and Standards

Additionally, workshops will be organised by the Technical Committees on:
· Primary and Process Industry
· Capital, Components and Consumer Industry
· Traffic
· Telecommunication
· Medical, Health and Healthcare
· Finance, Trade and Services

The participants will have the opportunity:
· to discuss and exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Authors are invited to submit papers including clear concluding remarks.
After acceptance for presentation the papers will be published in the
proceedings on CD-ROM.

Proposals for sessions are welcome. Persons interested in organising a
session should contact the organiser as soon as possible.

We intend to publish

· the papers on CD-ROM and additionally
· a booklet containing abstracts (max. 1 DIN A4 page) of the papers.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Checklist

1. send an electronic version of the paper on diskette
2. three camera-ready printouts of the paper (in minimum 2 DIN A4 pages)
3. an electronic version of the abstract for the booklet
4. a printout of the abstract for the booklet (in maximum 1 DIN A4 page)

Please send us the disks along with the camera-ready printouts. The hard-copy
printout that exactly matches the diskette, is for emergency purposes in case
all efforts to convert the file to the common platform fail.

LAYOUT INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING THE PAPERS AND THE ABSTRACTS

1. Paper for the CD-ROM
We prefer that the paper (including all figures) will be saved in Microsoft Word
for PC or PDF format.

A template file in Word 97 for PC with instructions for authors can be downloaded
on http://www.mitgmbh.de/template/paper.htm.

2. Abstract for the booklet
The abstract should be saved in Microsoft Word for PC or ASCII-format and it shall
not contain any illustrations, figures, or graphics nor any special characters.

Diskettes should be labelled clearly, containing the following information:

1. Name of the corresponding author and address
2. File names contained on diskette (recommended format corresponding AuthorName.file
format e.g. Smith.doc, Jones.ps etc.)

In an accompanying letter, authors should specify:

1. Name of the corresponding author and address
2. Title of the paper
3. Software (name and version) and type of computer used
4. If submitting multiple diskettes (in case of compression please use winzip)
label clearly the diskette sequence.
5. the first two choices from the topics of interest as given in the call for papers,
under which the paper can be classified.

If the diskette files are corrupted we will try to get in contact in order to find
a solution.

Submission by e-mail is encouraged to facilitate the process, however the submission
of hard-copy with the diskette is mandatory.

Submitted papers will be reviewed, and all accepted papers will be published on CD-ROM.
The abstracts will be published in a booklet. Each participant will receive the CD-ROM
and the booklet with the abstracts. A copy of the proceedings will be given to each
participant at the conference. After the conference, the proceedings will be available
from ELITE.

Submission and acceptance of a paper commits one of the authors to present the paper.
The paper will be omitted from the proceedings, if the registration fee is not received
by 30 June 2000.

All papers at the symposium will be presented in English. Simultaneous translation
will not be available.

If a participation is cancelled until 4 weeks before the conference, an administration
fee of Euro 50.- has to be paid. In case of a later cancellation the full registration
fee has to be paid.
