Chios, Greece

CoIL is a European funded partnership of the four Networks of Excellence
ERUDIT, EvoNet, MLNet, and NeuroNet. Its aim is to promote co-operation
between the respective fields of fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing, machine
learning and neural networks.

One of the activities to emphasise the potential synergies of combining the
different paradigms is CoIL 2000, which consists of

=B7 the European Best Practice Workshops from 19-21 June 2000 and
=B7 the Symposium on Computational Intelligence from 22-23 June 2000.

It will offer a complete perspective on computational intelligence and learning
and address research and applications in the different fields. Special focus
will be on hybrid systems combining the different approaches.

CoIL 2000 will take place on Chios, Greece. This North-eastern Aegean island
will be an ideal location for having motivating discussions, exchanging
experiences, and combining business with leisure in a relaxed atmosphere!

INTRODUCTION TO CoIL 2000

CoIL 2000 will take place from 19-23 June 2000 on Chios, Greece. It is
organised by CoIL - the Cluster of the four European Networks of Excellence
ERUDIT, EvoNet, MLNet and NeuroNet. It combines Best Practice Workshops and
a Symposium on Computational Intelligence to offer participants a complete
perspective on computational intelligence and learning. The event will address
issues and applications of evolutionary computing, fuzzy logic, machine
learning and neural networks - as well as hybrid systems combining a number
of different approaches.

EUROPEAN BEST PRACTICE WORKSHOPS, 19-21 June 2000

CoIL 2000 will open with the European Best Practice Workshops on 19 June.
Over three days, experienced researchers will present the main soft computing
and machine learning methodologies, together with successful hybrid approaches.
Participants will be introduced to a number of example applications and will
have an opportunity to complete several practical exercises in the hands-on
sessions afterwards. The schedule and content of the Workshops is described

The Workshops will be immediately followed by a Symposium on Computational
Intelligence and Learning. The focus of the Symposium will be on applications
'of hybrid approaches. Acknowledged experts in the fields covered by the event
will present the latest research findings and applications, and address some of
the issues that arise from combining different techniques. A debate and a
keynote lecture given by Prof. Dr. James Christian Bezdek will complete the
