This received much discussion on this n.g. a few years ago. I _think_ I
asked a question something like "...suggestions for initialisation
staratgies for fuzzy c-means clustering...". Search Google groups,
perhaps something like <"fuzzy c-means" + initialisation"> or add
"jg.campbell".
If that reveals nothing, email me an I'll dig out a summary -- in fact a
Java version of f.c-m that allows you to choose an initialisation method
from those suggested; in fact, AFAIK, I posted that code to the n.g.
