    There is a default assumption in the example rules I gave. The complete rules
    should be:

    R1: IF obstacle is straight ahead AND there is no obstacle on the right,
        (AND there is obstacle on the left), THEN turn right;

    R2: IF obstacle is straight ahead AND there is no obstacle on the left,
        (AND there is obstacle on the right), THEN turn left;
        
    Of course, addtitional rules are needed to deal with all situations. But this is
    not the point. The point is, if you use the two rules you wrote, the robot will
    collide against the obstacle, simply because the two rules are inconsistent. It
    is you, not the fuzzy logic that can resolve the contradiction.
