Mail configuration

This page describes the mail configuration. If there are any mail troubles this page might offer a solution.

To keep away unwanted mails, we are currently using this measures:

mail blocks which use technical requirements of client and sender to reject mails
greylisting
mail filter which check the whole mail for spam phrases

Greylisting

Greylisting is described at http://greylisting.org/.
A short summary: Spammer usually send mails, but don't use RFC conform SMTP engines. That means that if a mail get's rejected (it doesn't care if temporary or permanent), they don't try to resend it. Greylisting uses that mechanism to reject every mail for the first time and accept it after a given delay.

Currently greylisting is in testing phase. That means, everyone who want to participate has to be included. If the greylisting is accepted as useful, it will be default and everyone who doesn't want it has to be excluded.
